Another appeal public hearing has been scheduled for 10:30am on Tuesday March 26th, 2013 at the Comfort Inn on Airport Road, St. John’s.
Background information:
- March 29, 2012: the PCSP Town gave the Anglican Diocese an “Order to Repair” the heritage church, including to reattach the steeple. (To repair and maintain the church building is the responsibility of the Parish and the Diocese. However The Church By The Sea Inc. continues to offer to accept this responsibility, at no cost to the Parish).
- April 11, 2012: the Anglican Diocese requested to the Municipal Affairs Regional Appeal Board an appeal against the Town’s “Order to Repair”.
- January 18, 2013: the initial appeal hearing. The Diocese lawyers gave a 200-page document to the Town’s lawyer one day before the hearing (over nine months after the appeal request): this lead to a postponement. We believe this “last-minute” document was a delay tactic by the Diocese, so that the steeple stays on the ground, and the church continues to deteriorate.
- Tuesday, March 26, 2013: the new public appeal hearing date, 10:30 AM at the Comfort Inn, Airport Road, St. John’s. If possible, please consider attending. The CBTS, as an official “interested party”, will be there again with our lawyer.
- March 31, 2013: 3rd anniversary of the steeple being vandalized, with neither the rector, nor the Parish Hierarchy, nor the Anglican Diocese making a complaint to the police.
